The new Microvate Reaction Rack exclusively available from ReactArray – “Broaden Your Screening Horizons”

Microvate Reaction Rack (RAR-12)

  • -30 to 150 °C
  • 12 independent temp zones
  • Controlled temperature ramping
  • 250ul to 2ml volume range
  • Fully supported by ReactArray software
  • Microvate rack from Reactarray

    Reflux & Inerting Manifold (RAR-12-RH)

  • Single action fit
  • Reflux - Hastalloy cooling fingers
  • Excellent solvent retention
  • Inerting for broad chemistry scope
  • Typically development reactions are run at a 10% dilution level in about 100 ml of solvent, consuming approximately 10 g of starting material. Recently, the use of smaller reaction vessels combined with automated workstations has meant that more thorough process investigations can be carried out without increasing the demand for starting material.

The ReactArray Group in conjunction with the Pharmaceutical Industry has taken this trend a step further by developing the Microvate Reaction Rack.

    Volume 100 ml 4 - 15 ml 0.25 – 2 ml
    Molarity 20 – 50 mmol 20 – 50 mmol 20 – 50 mmol
    Amount of starting material per reaction 10 g 0.3 - 1.5 g 0.025 – 0.200 g
    Number of reactions 1 ~ 10 - 30 ~ 50 - 400

  • The Microvate provides the scope to investigate a wider range of solvents, reagents and catalysts so that better qualified reaction optima can be established.
  • Already, there are a number of examples where these broader screens have significantly improved the cost and performance of key pharmaceutical transformations.
  • Microvate screening of the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction

The Microvate rack has been used to examine a Suzuki reaction via the combination of a variety of bases and solvents in a 48 member parallel reaction screen. This unattended study verified Molanders recent findings that the transformation can be achieved using palladium acetate in a ‘ligandless’ environment and that MeOH was the solvent of choice.

    Microvate rack from Reactarray

Representative in-situ yields from a Suzuki-Miyaura reaction screen in the Microvate rack after 2 hours 30 minutes.

  • Fully automated Parallel reactions.
  • 48 member array (6 solvents x 8 bases)
  • Inerting for broad chemistry scope
  • All 6 solvents heated at their respective reflux temperatures
  • Only 1.5 grams of starting material consumed
  • Reaction environment maintained by single action manifold
  • 144 HPLC injections
  • Due to the wide ranging nature of the screening study some surprising solvent and base combinations were found.
